This training consists of two afternoons of training per year group. During the first session teachers will moderate the children’s achievement to date during their Place Value unit of work. They will consider next steps for their children in order for them to achieve Mastery and Greater Depth. Teachers will then be provided with an overview of a unit of work produced by First4Maths for Addition and Subtraction (Years 1 – 4) or Multiplication and Division Years 5 and 6. Included in these units of work will be check points for mastery and greater depth.
Teachers will consider the progression in each unit of work and ensure that this meets the needs of their children. There will also be time to consider the links to the wider curriculum and how the unit of work addresses the curriculum intent for mathematics in your school.
During the second session, teachers will moderate the children’s achievements to date and consider any next steps for teaching and as part of intervention. Teachers will then be provided with two additional units of work to consider and adapt to meet the needs of their children.
These courses can be used alongside any schemes of work that schools might be using as they focus on what mathematical skills need to be taught and how schemes can be adapted to ensure that children achieve Mastery and Greater Depth.
There are two subject leader review sessions to review outcomes of the moderation and planning sessions. These will enable Subject Leaders to consider whole school next steps.
